Looking after your skin and body with Miss Vitality – Part I

See our recent feature in Time Out Beauty

This month we are focusing on our bodies.

At Time Out Beauty, our main focus is the skin, however, we have to bear in mind that some skin conditions are caused by gut issues, poor diet, lack of sleep, medication etc. It can be frustrating that in some cases even though the client’s skin care regime is good, certain skin conditions fail to be resolved. So if we acknowledge the body holistically it could be due to other issues deeper than the skin.

After meeting with Chiza Westcarr, the educator for the Miss Vitality Nutrition range, we were blown away to discover that this therapeutic range is designed to correct skin health from the inside. We were confidently told that these scientifically developed products guarantee results due to their therapeutic dose when taken as directed. These TGA approved complementary medicines are in fact active enough to bring about change in the skin and body. We were also impressed that this range is not only Australian owned, but also uses certified organic ingredients.

“This range stands out as it is more potent due to its therapeutic dose.”

Chiza is also a strong believer that most conditions begin in the gut, and these products promote gut health.

Miss Vitality Co-Founders, Naturopath Pamella Zakostelsky, and Paramedical Aesthetician Natasha McCrystal have over 35 years combined experience in the health and skincare industry.

They have combined their extensive knowledge and skills to formulate this effective range.

With their findings Miss Vitality was born; a wellness movement that represents nourishment on a cellular level protecting our cells from the damages we face within our environment, the food we eat and stress levels from everyday demands.

“Age Prevention is now here on a nutritional and cellular level… what we do today is the future of our health, the prevention of disease and protection of the cells”.
Inflammation is a major contributor to ageing. The Miss Vitality range uses anti-inflammatories throughout their range. Certain products in the range also assist in reducing the toxic load.

As a skin therapist, I am now inspired to obtain even better results for my clients who suffer from conditions such as rosacea, acne, pigmentation, dull and devitalised skin, itchiness, sensitivity, and ageing.

There are 7 products in the range which are suitable for all skin conditions:

Clean Tea

We should all take time out for a cup of tea, not only to unwind but to detoxify and protect our body and skin.

Clean Tea is a therapeutic herbal infusion that is suitable for everybody* (*not recommended during pregnancy). It contains certified organic ingredients and is caffeine and sugar-free. This blend of detoxifying plants will purify the body and enliven the skin. It is rich in antioxidants which not only strengthens immunity but cleanses the gut and aids digestion.

How to be a positive sparkle in a world full of negative people

Negativity can be unpleasant for all in social situations, even for those who deal with it well. It is such a simple way to have a dampening effect on another person’s mood and impact the behaviours and actions of others and even yourself, whether you like it or not. The way you let these negative energies impact your day will set you apart from those who choose to focus on the negative over the positive. Wearing a big smile versing being cynical shows you have to power to decide what “mood team” you will belong in and portray your resilience and sparkle to others. You may even be someone else’s reason to smile that day.

There are a few simple tips for you to implement a positive mindset and avoid negativity.

1. Create a positive social environment

It is widely recognized that friends are your second family and you may even interact with them more frequently than your own family! This shows how essential it is to choose the best ones and the ones who bring out the best in you, the ones who will respect and love you, who want the best for you and people who will lift your spirit just by being around them.

2. Embrace optimism

Being willing to embrace change and being optimistic about situations will bring returns and expose you to new opportunities that may benefit your life and mindset. There is no reason to believe that you cannot do things before you try them or thinking that if something will not go well that there is no point even trying. You will learn lessons about yourself and others and create a new journey through new adventures through being optimistic and trying new things that will allow your sparkle and positive attitude to naturally shine through.

3. Accept the fact that you are not perfect

People make mistakes, people have flaws and under no circumstances are people eligible of doing all things right. You are one of them and accepting that making mistakes is a part of life that helps you learn will bring about positive change to your mindset.

4. Be the change that you want

Negativity is not only related to others, you may have a negative mindset because something happened or even you woke up that way. The above are absolutely normal, but you can change your mindset in those situations. Wake up every morning, smile and say “thanks for all that I have”, listen to your favorite songs, enjoy your coffee or tea and eat your breakfast. Take this cheerful mood to your work, too. You will be the change that everyone around you can benefit from.

5. Do not be afraid of letting go

Plans are cancelled, relationships are falling apart, attitudes are being proved to be wrong. Three steps: accept it, let it go, go on. This does not mean that you do not care about these situations or the people involved, but that you care for your wellbeing. Eliminate negative situations from your life to reach happiness and focus on making yourself the healthiest and happiest version of you that you can. As they say, you can’t love those and the world around you until you love yourself!

How to Be Mindful With Your In-Laws

How we relate with our in-laws deeply affects the overall harmony and well-being in our
families and in our life. For many, this becomes most obvious during the holidays.

This year, let mindfulness help you navigate potential conflict and nourish these key relationships.

Set the intention to be accepting, patient and appreciative with your in-laws.

Know that some situations might make you emotionally reactive. When these moments arise, breathe mindfully and send a caring reminder to yourself to help regain your balance.

Whenever you remember, ground yourself in mindful presence by relaxing your body,
bringing a slight smile to your mouth, and taking a few full breaths. In these moments, recall your intention.

Purposefully notice what you appreciate about your in-laws and when appropriate, let them
know directly.

Be mindful of where they might be feeling uncomfortable, vulnerable or anxious, and with care, see how you can be helpful.

Forgive yourself, and them, for ways your time together may be difficult.

Pause and fully savor the moments when there’s affection, humor or kindness.

Ways to Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

A healthy lifestyle is an important factor to improve the welfare of your life.

Living in a healthy way can prevent health problems such as high blood pressure and obesity.

There are many habits and routines that can be trained to live a healthy lifestyle.

A balanced lifestyle filled with good nutrition is ideal.

Here are habits that can help you lead a healthy lifestyle:

1. Keep your diet

The body will always be affected by food intake. A healthy diet should contain sufficient amounts of nutrients. In addition, be mindful of the type of food in your diet.

Always remember to check the label the food you buy, as well as how these foods should be cooked.

Prioritizing for steaming or grilling food instead of frying.

2. Drink enough water

Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water each day. Drink more water after you perform strenuous physical activities such as sports.

Drinking enough water will help replace the lost and also cleans toxins from the body.

Drinking plenty of water is highly recommended and reduce the consumption of soda and caffeinated drinks.

3. Exercise

Regular exercise ensures the physical conditions are maintained.

Exercise also helps you free from mental tension.

Other benefits of exercise include: blood circulation; toning and strengthening muscles; and increases the body’s oxygen levels.

4. Get rid of bad habits

Developing good habits is not enough. You also have to get rid of bad habits such as smoking or consuming copious amounts of alcohol.

Enlist a friend or family member to help get rid of bad habits.

5. Maintain a positive and optimistic attitude towards life

Perspective will affect how you live your daily life.

Grow an optimistic attitude and avoid associating with people who are pessimistic.

Instead of thinking about what’s wrong with life, think about what is right in your life.

6. Get a hobby

Hobbies not only increase the power of the mind, but also relieve you from stress.

Foods that help control acne

Nobody likes it when that unwanted pimple shows up on your face. Did you know there are foods that you can be eating to help control acne breakouts? We’ve put together a list to incorporate into your diets that help.

Fruits and vegetables

People who have eating habits that are rich in fruits and vegetables like yams and greens and low in refined foods like white sugar and white flour, which can cause hormones to spike, find that acne breakouts are less likely to occur.

Brazil nuts

Brazil nuts are rich in selenium, a powerful antioxidant that appears to help improve acne by protecting cells from inflammatory damage and preserving skin’s elasticity. Selenium works particularly well when it’s accompanied by vitamins E and A, so eat your Brazil nuts with some almonds and perhaps some red bell peppers.

One Brazil nut delivers a full day’s supply. Other foods rich in selenium are meats, fish, poultry, onions, garlic and whole grains.

Oysters, beans, poultry, fish (and other foods rich in zinc)

No one knows exactly why, but getting enough zinc appears to help put the brakes on breakouts. It may be that zinc helps to control the release of male hormones that kick-start acne. Zinc also helps the body absorb vitamin A, another important nutrient for healthy skin.

Salmon, flaxseed (and other foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids)

Omega-3 fatty acids help keep inflammation at bay and may help keep acne under control. Fatty fish like salmon, sardines, and mackerel all boast omega-3 fatty acids, as do flaxseed and walnuts.

Sweet potatoes, carrots, cantaloupe, bell peppers (and other foods rich in beta-carotene)

Beta-carotene (found in many orange-, yellow-, and red-hued fruits and vegetables) converts in the body to vitamin A, another of the nutrients that helps to enhance selenium’s benefits to skin.

Oranges, tomatoes, melons (and other foods rich in vitamin C)

These juicy vitamin C bombs won’t cure you of breakouts, but because the vitamin strengthens cell walls, it can help protect your skin from scarring that blemishes can cause. Bioflavonoids, which often come from a C source (such as the white rind inside citrus fruits), also act as natural anti-inflammatories that can enhance the healing action of vitamin C.

Almonds, eggs, leafy green vegetables (and other foods rich in vitamin E)

The antioxidant vitamin E helps skin heal from damage and scarring caused by acne. It’s not easy to get a lot of E from a low-fat diet, but unrefined (minimally processed) vegetable oils, nuts, and whole grains are good sources.

OFF THE MENU

Sugars:

You may have already suspected that sugar is related to breakouts.

High-glycemic foods:

These are food that break down quickly in the body, triggering an insulin spike and raising blood sugar levels. They trigger hormonal fluctuations and inflammation – both which encourage acne. These are foods like white bread, processed breakfast cereals, white rice, pretzles, crisps, cookies, cakes etc.

Junk Food:

For the same reason above – they cause hormonal fluctuations and blood sugar levels to spike. These are on the ‘to be avoided’ list of foods if you are wanting to keep your skin clear.

Fast Food:

Greasy fast food creates inflammation in the body, which can lead to pimples, so if you’re going to a fast-food restaurant, choose the salads or yogurt.

Benefits of fish oil

Omega 3 fish oils are known to support the skins inflammatory response, maintain cell integrity and relieve symptoms of impaired skin. Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are beneficial fats that cannot be made in the body. Omega-3 essential fatty acids are by far the most important good fats required to maintain optimal health. It is also known to support the skins inflammatory response, maintain cell integrity and relieve symptoms of impaired skin.

Consuming Miss Vitality Good Oil tablets which contain ultra pure, and ultra concentrated omega-3s will bring you all the benefits of consuming fish oil tablets without the aftertaste. Fish oil intake has also been associated with aiding the body in weight loss, fertility, pregnancy and increased energy. Adding taking a few Good Oil capsules to your daily ritual will provide you with numerous health benefits while giving your day a healthy and tasty start!

Mindful eating

Eating is a natural, healthy, and pleasurable activity for satisfying hunger. In our current society however, eating can become mindless and guilt consuming instead.

Mindful eating is eating with intention and attention that allows you to care for yourself and notice the way different food affect your body. Mindful eating includes an awareness of your physical and emotional cues, recognition of your non-hunger triggers for eating and learning to meet your other needs in more effective ways than eating.

Mindful eating also helps you answer questions such as why do I eat, when do I feel like eating, what do I eat, how do I eat and where do I invest the energy I consume? These questions will help you understand your personal eating and is a good first step toward meaningful transformation. Understanding how essential the impact food has on your body will allow you to understand what fuels your body to positively improve your health and give you new found energy and a new found outlook on life!

5 Daily Rituals for Wellness

So what is a ritual exactly? I’ll start by saying what it isn’t – it’s not getting the kids ready for school, or having a shower, or even doing your makeup.

It’s not just your routine and what you have to do each day. It’s a ritual and a ritual is a personal routine of self-care and self-love that is motivating and invigorating, it prepares you to take on the day. It’s a sacred time for just for you. Daily rituals will boost your focus, productivity and happiness. It will lift your mood, give you a sense of peace and contentment.

Here are 5 daily ritual for wellness just for you:

1) Stretch first thing

When you wake up in the morning, take a few moments to stretch your body. As you wake in bed stretch up reaching high in the sky above your head and your body out all the way do your toes. Spend a few minutes just moving your body in bed and set a positive intention for your day. Tune into your body and how you are feeling today. What do you need for today to be a great day?

2) Drinking Water

Hydration first thing is by far on of the most important ways you can kick start your day. Surprisingly many people start their day with stimulants like coffee or juice and rarely incorporate water into their daily routine. This can result in feeling tired, fatigue, skin problems and headaches. Drinking water will stimulate your digestive system and start waking up your body. Drinking water first thing in the morning is like sending the little wake up call to your brain.

Continue to drink water throughout the day, and yes I know it sounds like common sense, it isn’t however common practice. Continue to drink plenty of water throughout the day so your body will be continually hydrated leaving you feeling refreshed throughout your day.

3) Finding something to be thankful for every day

Practicing conscious gratitude allows us to appreciate our lives for what we do have, rather than thinking negatively about the things we don’t have. Learn to recognize the small things that bring you joy.

4) Meditation or Breathing Breaks.

Our breath comes naturally to our bodies and it can also be altered and controlled with thought and concentration. Awareness of our breath can be a key factor in making life changes and in all sorts of healing. Focusing and relaxing our breath can help ward off many kinds of diseases. Meditation helps decrease stress and links our bodies with our minds.

Take a few minutes out of your day to sit, become present to your breath, allow yourself to be present. You can do this anywhere it doesn’t have to be a quite spot for 20-30 minutes. It can be whilst waiting in line at the shops, or sitting outside on your lunch break from work, or even as you get up to walk from your desk to head to the toilet… find those moments throughout your day where you can become present to your breath, body and mind.

5) Wholefood, Juices and Herbal Tea

Whenever you can eat foods that are as close to their original form as possible; like fruit, veggies, nuts and seeds. Processed foods are full of chemicals that have no nutritional value, and they can weigh you down and dampen your mood. Even when you are on the go, incorporate fresh squeezed juices, and herbal teas like MissVitality Clean Tea.

Mindful walking

Meditation and methods of relaxation are proven to provide our bodies with several physical and mental health benefits, but have you ever considered walking as a form of this relaxation? The fact that walking is so central to our lives makes it a ready focus for mindful meditation in its easiest form.

Begin by standing up straight with your back upright but not stiff and make sure your weight is distributed evenly. Next, curl the thumb of your left hand in and wrap your fingers around it. Place it just above your belly button and wrap your right hand around your left so your right thumb rests in the crevice between your left thumb and index finger. Continue by dropping your gaze slightly to maintain focus and step out with your left foot, followed by the right foot. Walk at a steady pace, slightly slower than in daily life but not too slow.

This mindful walking will help you begin each day with a clear mind or help you unwind after a big day, assisting with relaxation and allowing you to think clearly about what’s going on presently in your life.
